Adventure. www.tricalifornia.com
The Avia Wildflower Triathlon says adventure, excitement, forboding (well, maybe not that). Where is it? How do you get there? How much is it going to cost? How do I get ready?
The Avia Wildflower Triathlon is a big gathering of triathlete who congregate at Lake San Antonio Park in South Eastern Monterey County, California. There are no hotels, only campsites. The best accomodations will

1. Taper- A well structured taper is essential to run a good one on race day. It gives your legs a chance to fully rest and “soak up” the many kilometres that have been put into them in training. It is NOT an excuse to do nothing and “Carbo- Load”- Please! There are many factors that will determine a good taper- training load, recent race history, recovery from injury, etc. As a rule of thumb, cut down on total weekly volume to 75%, 2 weeks out and then again to 50% in the 1 week leading up to r…

I have to say, it has been an interesting week! A week ago, I flew to Charlotte with my Mom to visit my sister and her family. I made my mother get the flu shot so we would be protected from the flu bug since we were flying. I obsessively used hand sanitizer and was very careful with hand washing but...something slipped past me and I got strep (I think, at least that's what I treated), that turned into an upper respiratory infection, that turned into laryngitis and possibly "walking pneumonia" (…

As I'm getting ready to watch the IM World Championship in Kona, I started thinking a lot about that course. The announcer was saying how difficult the course was. Initially, Kona was going to be my A-race. But....I don't feel worthy of Kona yet-and I don't think I'm ready for a HIM on a tough course.
Then I saw a HIM in FL, May 16 (the day after my b-day!) that is really flat and goes around Disney....I'm thinking of changing my A-race to this one. It's only my first season and if I do Kona no…

From Gilbert fisch

Hi Sergio,
When I decided to race Monaco I remembered your comment about chosing the races wisely according to ones abilities. Well, I have become a pretty strong roller who is still strugling with climbing at steeper grades. So I had second thoughts about racing Monaco. But on the other h…

I'd like to say thanks to my ironguides coach, Kristian Manietta.
I have known him for more than five years and I have been working with him professionally since mid-November 2008. And I can say without hesitation that I'm a far better triathlete today for it.
In embracing The Method, I've had to put aside my general questioning of every session - at least enough to accept that what I'm to do in each session is because it will make me faster. And it has.
In the final weeks ahead of Ironman Ca…

It wasn't pretty. Nope, not in anyway. But I've got my medal and it was a day of at least one first: cycling into a moving SUV and then hitting the ground. Not recommended!
