Today was a good day.

Awoke at 6:00 without an alarm... way to early for a Saturday.

Synthroid medication for getting old, 30 minutes of pilates core and stretching, then a high carb, high calorie Pancakes, egg, coffee, juice breakfast. Oh mama, I ate too much! Since the pool didn’t open until 09:45, made sure I had everything ready to go. My “soft goal” for the day: As much of a practice half iron man as I could handle, nice and easy. The difficulty was, it was cold and the wind was blowing. Not to worry. Running tights, long sleeved running shirts, headband, gloves: I could stay warm.

Half iron man it was not to be. Somehow when I calculated in my head the laps for 1.2 miles I forgot to divide by 3. So, ... I swam 3.6 miles in 2 hours 33 minutes. I didn’t really pay attention to the time while I was swimming, but it did seem like it was kind of long. My left shoulder started complaining, which is the first time this has happened. I pushed through and actually finished the 127 50 yard sets.

After the swim I drank some Cytomax that I had mixed in the morning and prepared to go for a bike ride. May intention was to bike from the Jones Valley wellness center via Bailey Cove, Garth, Drake and Trevor up to Chandler around and back to the Wellness Center, down Bailey Cove down the Greenway and back. I didn’t get to Trevor because it does get steep and my get up and go was gone. I turned around just before Trevor on Drake. I ate a goo pack and drank some Cytomax and my energy level improved. The rest of the route I accomplished, making 21 miles in 1 hour 32 minutes.

Next, I returned home and ran six miles in the Hills near my home in a few seconds more than 1 hour.

For recovery, I drank 16 oz of milk with whey, kicked up my heels and went into a near zombie state. After dinner I feel pretty good.

Maybe someday I will actually do the distance for a half iron man. Yet, ...

Today was a good day.
